Course description

Quantitative risk assessment models for both natural and anthropogenic risk are addressed, alongside strategies, technologies, and tools for risk prevention and management. Such subjects allow defining comprehensive methods aimed at critical infrastructures’ resilience enhancement. Practical experience is also integrated in the curriculum, through cooperation with companies and institutions, to align education with industry needs.
A minimum GPA of 70% and a certified B2-level mastery of English will be considered as highly preferential by the interview committee. In addition, the consistency of the Bachelor’s degree and the courses taken relating to the key subjects characterising the Master in Aerospace Engineering will be checked upon and evaluated.
Particularly, graduates may be enrolled in engineering companies and stakeholders dealing with design of civil and industrial facilities (e.g. public infrastructures, energy production plants etc.) aimed at resilience enhancement, with a focus on sustainability from economic and environmental safety standpoint. The acquired skills will also ease enrolment in national and international public administrations managing critical infrastructures, networks, buildings and complex systems. Lastly, job opportunities will be found in research facilities to carry out anthropogenic and natural hazard-related risk assessment and mitigation methods.
The final exam consists in the writing of a dissertation on a subject chosen by the student among the topics of the Programme. The thesis, produced under the guidance of one or more supervisor/s, is of two kinds: 1) related to a project or an experimentation in university labs or other external organisations; 2) related to basic or applied research theme.
