Descrizione dell'insegnamento
Students attending the course should have a B2 level of English in all four skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking).
The course aims to provide an overview of the different characterisations of specialised texts, taking into consideration the students' diverse backgrounds and study interests (e.g. cultural heritage, archaeology, music disciplines). The course will thus consist of two modules: in the first one, students will gain insights into the use of tenses, active/passive voice, modal verbs, reported speech in academic writing , whereas in the second module they will practise the aforementioned constructions in their context of occurrence. The second part will thus focus on the reading, comprehension and translation of different texts taken from various sources at an international level (academic journals, newspapers, international broadcasters).

Lessons, exercises and translation of texts.
A 30-question written esonero based on the grammatical contents of the first module. The final exam (appello orale) will take into account the mark obtained in the esonero and students will be asked to analyse a text at their choice (concerning their own field of study and specialisation) in the light of the syntactic and pragmatic structures explained during the course and to have a conversation with the Professor on that topic.
Murphy, Raymond. English Grammar in Use: A Self-Study Reference and Practice Book for Intermediate Students : with Answers. Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, fifth edition, 2019.
Further readings will be provided during the course and will be considered to be part of the oral examination.
