PRESENTATION of the teacher, the laboratories, the instrumentation, JOB/THESIS POSSIBILITY.

PELAGOS ZONIZATION, Terminology , Oceano-geography and large water circulation. Oceanography and Physical geography of the Mediterranean Sea. Mediterranean Fauna.

PLANKTON terminology and conceptual grouping. Species richness and species abundance. Life cycles and the trochaea theory. Life styles and feeding habitus.

PELAGOS IN CONFINED ENVIRONMENTS. Techniques and methods. Lagoon/bays, principal distributional and adaptive rules. Meroplankton and Benthic Pelagic Coupling. Cysts and Resurrection Ecology.

PELAGOS IN THE OPEN SEA. Neuston. Rafting and species circulation, Swimming behavior, Migration (vertical and horizonthal)

Cetaceans and other lunged animals.

PELAGOS IN THE DEEP. Submarine caves, Hyperbenthos, Bioluminescence, open sea fishery.

acquisition of basis in taxonomy, diversity, and life cycles strategy, to upgrade biological knowledge for the comprehension of pelagic system functioning 

frontal lessons (7 cfu), practical excercitations (1 cfu)

Examination

(2 steps) 

A) 81 questions (questionnaire) with triple choice (answers).

  Time, 75 min.     

  Minimum score to pass the examination =   42 points (18/30);   >71 points (30/30);              

+ 1 point = 1 correct answer;       - 1  point = 2 non correct answers

B) Oral presentation (time 15 min), ppt file, on a subject from the program  (minimum score to pass the examination = 18; maximum 30)

The final score will be the average of the two sub-scores
