Knowledge of ancient history

The course aims to provide the fundamental notions for cataloging and interpretation of the archaeological data identified with direct and systematic exploration of the territory.

The following topics will be developed: knowledge and reading of the various types of cartography (IGM, aerofotogrammetric, land registry, etc.); cataloging, analysis, positioning of archaeological elements and archaeological traces from aerial photography; cataloging systems for archaeological data: Database, GIS, etc. The course includes practical exercises in the laboratory and / or surveys.

Lo studente alla fine delle attività di laboratorio, avrà acquisito le seguenti competenze: - Comprensione delle potenzialità nell’utilizzo delle immagini aeree in campo archeologico; - Analisi dei dati contenuti nelle immagini aeree, - Lettura approfondita dei documenti (fotointepretazione) finalizzata all’individuazione degli elementi utili alla ricostruzione dei paesaggi antichi. - Individuazione, interpretazione, posizionamento e schedatura delle tracce archeologiche. - Conoscenza dei principali sistemi di telerilevamento e dei documenti aerofotografici per la ricostruzione dei paesaggi antichi. - Gestione dei dati aereorilevati in sistemi GIS.

Ex cathedra teaching; practical exercises in the laboratory

Oral exam. The student will be evaluated according to the knowledge of the main issues addressed during the course; it will take account of the results achieved with exercises. Ability to teamwork.
