Teaching description

Knowledge in the field of economic and sociological disciplines (Economics, History of Economic Thought, Economic Sociology).

The course aims to highlight  the problems of economic development, focusing  on the social effects of  growth.

in the first part, we will highlight the category of economic development and its meaning in classical and Marxian economics. Subsequently, growth theories and neoclassical approaches build another explanatory system and new interpretative patterns. Keynesian and post-keynesian economics will complete the short historical reconstruction of the debates on the economics of development.

In the second part, we will consider the effectiveness of the different interpretative models applied to underdeveloped countries after the birth of the Economics of Development as an autonomous discipline. We will focus on the following aspects: Changes in the economic systems, savings, investments and income growth, diffusion of innovations, international commerce, changes in the education system and in behaviors of economic agents, distribution and social inequalities, human development, etc.

In the third part, we will consider the relationships between economic activities and ecological system. Features and perspectives of sustainable development will be considered through the reading of the last reports on the environmental dynamics in the global society.
